I did Pete, I did. It only ever slept out if there was an immobile patient in the garage over night, honest. Same with the Z4. The old (newer) oil burner lives outside though.

Good evening.

Feels good to have a reasonably happy ending to the Z hood repair. The z just back from 5 days touring Scotland and the window repair is in and pretty sturdy giving me a bit more confidence in the car.

Final thoughts on replacing the window is doing it in the right process and order. For installing the window, its best to leave some time to first remove the window and allow yourself the time to check and resew your window zip mountings as best as you can which is almost certainly easier with complete removal of the window. If the zipping is sewn in well, everything should allign. Slow and steady is really the best way to go.

We are about to order new roof and pay a further 350 to have it fitted! Probably more than car is worth at.the minute. Her roof has been knackered for so long I will bet carpets etc are sodden, once wings are on and car painted I will pop seats out and start drying out process.

Seems roofs available down south much cheaper?

Wow, am paying 317 for roof alone plus 350 for fitting!! I suppose the savings are not quite so huge when I factor in about 950mile round trip, hotel for a night and two days out my life though!!

Really pleased with mine done in Stockport at the Soft Top Shop for £680 on our way up to do the NC500 last month. Only frustration was not being able to put the top down for 10 days, covering the entire time we were away!

Has made a huge difference to the appearance of the car IMHO.

My new window has landed from America so the fitting is imminent, I'm not looking forward to it though.
Firstly, good luck with the repair. It's a tricky and fiddly job.

How is the condition of the stiching on the hood as it stands? The biggest difficulty could arrise if some of the zip attached to the hood will not allign with the zip teeth not allowing the pulling of the zip. Really worth taking the time to check this out when you have taken the window out of the hood. This is the best chance you have of repair.

A good wedge between the hood and windscreen will prop up the hood loose enough to keep the zip seams closer together and aid the zip in fitting in well. A helper would be good for this or some light pinser work with some tweezers or the mrs eyebrow pluckers work a treat. Pay special attention to the corners and work slowly ensuring no spilts on the teeth behind the zip.

A large pot of coffee is also needed.:D

Any questions throughout, the forum will be here to help.
