I'm afraid my i have about 30-40cm of unstitched seems on both NS and OS of the hood. It would require a lot of patience but im willing to give it a go. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. May i ask about the Nylon thread you used. Any links to the www?

As for the carpet, i assume just because the carpet itself isn't too wet, the foam underneath will be a different story.
I will find ebay link post it up for you .
Yes foam can easily hold litres of water in it hiding

I have recently got a full roof from @spurs fan in a coupe with excellent window on here. I realise he isn't near you but I'm sure you could get a complete roof for a fraction of the prices your quoting.

I would agree with @Grumps Dave is right a good second hand complete roof sort of 175 -250 far cheaper ( happy to help swap if you go down this road )
The only thing i would say is get a look at it 1st or get a lot of pictures as most of the original zed roofs all going the same way with deteriorated stitching and fragile windows.
My Dakar has an original roof and although its not leaking or ripped open any where the stitching is definitely on its way out in places.
I would hope that if you purchased one from a member on here that would come with a bit more piece of mind than one on ebay.

Advice not to mess about, I invested in a new hood, it came from Germany and was fitted by Auto Trimmers in Redcar, brilliant job but did cost me £670 but well worth it, very professional job.

Regards Wiz

My roof is in great condition and suspect it is 5 ish years old. The stitching is white and looks great and is all in really good nick. The window is in great shape, myself and Andy fitted it and although it is a messy job it isn't hard to do. If your on a budget as I was then it's definitely the route to take.

Hi and welcome, theres a guy in N Newcastle on the N E Z3 Facebook group offering a used but good condition ( his claim not mine) for £125. Could try and contact him if interested.
@Davyhoogy () may be able to help with transport if it works out for you.

Evening

Managed to get out to take a few snaps of the offending hood just before the light was gone. I only took one side as the other is a similar story. I didn't get the full car cover off as its frozen on at the moment and i can only imagine the damage to the paint. Who knows what a clean, claybar and polish will reveal?

So after actually using a tape measure, its about 25cm not 40cm as i said above. The Hood still feels in decent condition, i can only guess its original as this car lived 60k miles of its life on the southcoast of England owned by someone who took care of the car. Probably garaged. 60k of BMWFSH too.

I hope the pictures showing the hood make everything clearer.

Thoughts on going for the Nylon-thread-sew-up as @Stevo7682 had suggested or is this the hood to far gone?

Hi @roadvoyager1 . Thanks for the welcome. Distance-wise, Newcastle isn't too far away really. Good few hours in the car but do-able. At the moment, i'm still undecided on what route id like to in terms of the hood so it would only be an enquiry. Are there any pics to the NE Z3 forum with photos? Also, is it black?

If its the same both sides and only on the straight bits of the sides i would have a go at repairing it 1st before giving up on it totally.

Yes the hood is black. There are 2 photos, so you may want to ask for more detailed photos. Did you pick up the suggestion for transport? Could save you travelling all the way down.

The top and bottom sections are actually pretty sturdy. Needs a right good clean but the threads look solid and no signs of rotting or freying. Ill need to so a little bit of the curve on the other side but im going to give the stitching a go before seeing about a completely new hood.

Trying to organise an underground/indoor parking space so i can work on the car for a day or two in decent environment as see what comes out.
