Welcome from deepest darkest Somerset.
Don't worry about that 6th gear, if you go too fast people cannot admire the Zed.

welcome from worcestershire, yes i keep looking at the speedo/tacho to check im in 5th, the clocks will rise in unison in 5th, defo needs a 6th for motorway. you get used to it after a while, infact its quite good for A roads, the longer you own it the more it makes sense (maybe not so for a 2.8 though).

Hi from Canada! And yes you are right around the correct RPM's with the five speed! I'd love to find a six speed that would fit as I'm averaging about 38mpg so another gear would drop me down and improve on that. The best so far has been 40.4 mpg from a 1.9l !! Another JIM

Good to hear it's running better Jim, but you'll probably be re visiting those sensor because the cheap after market ones rarely last long.

Hello and :welcome:. Hopefully you will be lucky with the cam sensors, but if they fail again genuine BMW or OEM is your best option, although a little pricey.

You must have a good source then Jim, perhaps you can share it? I've used cheap after market ones from Euro car parts and they've failed again soon after. Agreed you could do 7 for 1 but I'd rather do it once and for all.:)

just off ebay just to fit bmw dont be model specific remember no moving parts ,£10 proves the fault could spend £80 & not faulty & 10-15 min job.

If you have the last 7 digits of your VIN number, follow the instructions in the thread below. That will give you the factory build sheet including which engine your car has (assuming someone hasn't changed it of course!). BMW engine codes always have the engine displacement as the last 2 numbers in the code, so if its an M54B22 then it's the 2.2 6cyl.

I believe the 2.5 was a North American only engine with it being badged a 2.3 on the rear panel for some reason known only to BMW..

You can find a 316 over here which may have a 1.6, 1.8 or even a 2.0 under the bonnet, but it's still a 316?
