It works :) ...........but only for going up

You also have to hold the key to the left until it reaches the top.

It's in the handbook afaik. Also, if you unlock the car with the key without the remote - in the hole as per the old days - the alarm will go off unless you put the key in the ignition within a certain time.

Apologies. I didn't want to steal the glory for this tip and thought linking to the FB page would give credit where it belonged. Thankfully "Mr. Hoggy" sorted it out for me and put the screen shot in - Thanks Davy.

@roadvoyager1 no apologies required.
Not being on FB, means I couldn’t open the link to see what the tip was. So my comment was meant to be tongue in cheek.

Good tip by the way !!!

Amazing, I didn't know the hole in the handle had any use at all! I thought the big metal part on the key was the antenna!

How clever of BMW to have a dual use remote antenna like that!

Did you all know that your indicator stalk has a second step for parking lights

It is in the handbook, page 34. Whilst I doread the handbook to find info on bits I don't know about, I have never looked at how to operate electric windows. Press button - they go down, press other end of button - they go up.
Perhaps there are many more hidden secrets in the handbook. Holiday reading sorted.

Could be a later introduction, mine is Feb. 1999. Did you hold the key in the lock position for about 5 seconds? It took longer than I expected.
Yes, am familiar with this on our E36 convertible (if you do same it also lowers/raises the fully auto roof). Think it was added to later cars. Believe there was an early Z3 "facelift" in mid/late 1997 that also added ASC/added front bumper marker sidelights/maybe other things such as this auto window close. Things seem to be more complicated as models progress, and more to go wrong of course.:thumbsup:
