What's this thing for in the door?

I'm working on replacing the cracked door handle trim and when I removed the door card I finally figured out where this extra piece of plastic goes that I found in the door pocket... But I have no idea what this cavity is supposed to be for.

The clips on the plastic are broken, so I'm thinking about just super glueing it back in permanently

Second question, does anyone know the part number for the cracked and broken bit above the door handle? I thought I found it, but I misread the diagram apparently.

Thank you. I guess I just didn't think of the right search term, and none of the diagrams I found seemed to include the gasket as part of the door handle exploded view. I'll have to dig deeper after work now that I know what I'm looking for. Thanks again.

Still wondering about that weird pocket and cover on the back side of the door card though. I can only find it on diagrams for other parts, but not on any clickable diagrams for this car.

Don't you have speakers in the top corner of the door?

I rarely have any luck putting search terms into RealOEM, BMW have some peculiar names for things

Unfortunately, I just trawl through the diagrams

Ah yes. I stand corrected. Been a while since I had my door cards off. I kinda remembered (wrongly) that that cavity gave access to the back of the speakers.
All good. Yeah, it kinda looks like a pocket for some kind of option. There's no hole in the back or bottom of it for wires or anything, and it just faces the fixed glass at the front of the door and somewhat visible from outside. I know BMW does very few things without a purpose. It's gotta be there for a reason, even if it isn't a good one.

It’s one of those parts that will deliberately fall off when you remove the door card ..and then cost £100 to replace ..or they make them NLA on purpose. I glued mine
