just changed the Ariel grommet on my 3M, I did the same job last year on my 1.9. But this wasn’t mounted in front of the Ariel, what is it? It has liquid in it and only about a third full so does it need filling and what with?
I know it’s an easy question for you guys!

That's the pump for the power roof
ah I thought it might be! Does anyone know the fluid you top it up with and how much should be in it?

Not sure on which fluid to use but it's only about a1/4 to 1/3rd full , there may even be a mark on the plastic casing

yes I thought that but can’t see any marks! I guess it’s just a hydraulic fluid?

Don't fill it until someone posts a picture of theirs otherwise it is easy to overfill and that will cause a mess. I can't help as mine's a Z4.

On your 1st photo you'll notice a round indentation on the plastic container that's the fill line when its installed.
From memory as replaced my aerial and grommet at weekend.

Also, just so you know, the pump slots into 2 rubber bushes at the bottom (there are 2 "pegs" about 10mm x 13mm long) and then 1 nut to locate the assembly. If the nut is missing a standard 6 or 8 mm will do the job.

OEM fluid from a dealer at a price when they are open again post Covid19 lockdown or try Halfords for Hydraulic Jack Oil, people use that as an alternative.
