Back on track to the original topic - for me always ha da soft spot for the Z3 Coupe, later edition.

Roadster wise the E85/86 -ideal proportions and looks in M format obviously. The Z on the doors ws a nice touch tbh. Later editions have all followed other makes getting lardy and losing the original brief. Not so nimble in twisties and suspect they've lost their fun factor to dirve, which really is the whole point.

Not to take away form the later models I's expect they are goodto drive, decent striaght line speeds and comfortable on long journeys which makes the journey enjoyable. but they seem more of a cruiser rather than a true sports car. All IMHO of course

@andyglym, it was mentioning the Lotus Elise as the best sportscar. Just thought it was not relevant to ' ..best looking zed ' question. I remember following him during one of the runs along some twisting Lincolnshire roads. That Lotus just stayed flat round the bends compared to my Z3 2.2i Sport , different class on handling!

Correct Ken, it wasn't, just thought I'd mention it in passing as Toby has an Elise.

Agree with that, my 3rd gen is much more of a cruiser than my gen 2 was. In fact it feels much more like the XKR to drive that I replaced my gen 2 with but with less grunt .

Thanks for the responses and some great pics. As for me I'm hovering between the widebody Z3 and the Gen 2 Z4
Both awesome looking vehicles, but lets face it , they are all great and we are privileged individuals who own them.

Couldn't resist having a go at this using the models that I've owned but let's be honest there really isn't a bad looking Zed and paint colour and wheels make a massive difference - anyway in reverse order:
Facelift E85

Looking back at the photo's reminded me just how bloody photogenic that Boston Green Widebody was - but even as I post I'm reflecting on how mean that all black Post-LCI E89 used to look
Let's be honest there isn't a bad one and just realised I forgot to include the Zed that started it all for me the Z4MC - some bloody start

I like the E89 because it harks back to the Z3 with the dash and centre console and also the “clam shell” bonnet. Without a shadow of doubt it has the best looking hard top of all the Zeds probably because it was designed to have one from the start not as an after though. Yes the Coupe E86 is a very nice looking car as is also the Z3///M Coupe but you can’t put the roof down and that’s the deal breaker for me.

Although I agree that the Z8 and Z3 are good looking cars depending on the colour & wheel options, for me the Z3 MC is the best looking.
The picture below shows this rear ¾ view with the quad exhaust & the unique Roadstar wheels (the rear deep dish are superb) which make it such a good looking car. Just my option of course.

The facelift Z3, followed by the E85 Z4 (from all angles except the front, which deserved an E89 bonnet).

The coupes hands down winners. That said I'd happily own any of the Z series apart from the E89, styled for the mass market and easily lost in a supermarket car park of blandness...

That's definitely how the Coupe presents itself from its most beautiful side, even if it's a common non-M version...
