As the title says, I have this annoying squealing noise when I'm releasing the clutch in 1st gear and it also happens when I change into second for about 2 seconds and then goes away.
This only seems to happen when the engine is warm and It's really confusing me.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be?

I'm going to be replacing the tensioner and idler pulleys today or tomorrow but I am not convinced this is the cause of the problem as the noise only occurs when releasing the clutch (I don't want it to be the release bearing :( )

Ok, so I changed the tensioner pulley this afternoon and the noise has gone.

The old bearing was completely knackered if I'm honest.

I spoke too soon. However if it does come back I'll be resurrecting this thread!! ;)

When I changed my tensioner the other week Steve I was almost convinced it was connected to the trans. Hopefully you've nailed it mate.:)

Ok so.... Bad news.

Just took her out for a proper spin. The noise is back and it's definitely getting worse. It's a constant squeal which gets worse when setting off from 1st gear..

I'm just so bored of problems with this car I'm having :( it's definitely not an enjoyable ownership right now.

It sounds as though the noise is coming from right underneath where I sit in the middle - so almost definitely trains related. I was too hopeful with my tensioner pulley fix although it was needed!

Great news Steve, just like mine. I would have sworn it was in the transmission somewhere but ....:)
