So I've got my new wheel installed, I THINK I followed all the tutorial I could find, but the new wheel does a loud 'click' when I turn it, when passing the middle point...

Video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6SUwVsTgyZfhzfps9

+ Removed underneath screw + panel
+ Unplugged the connector for the slip disc
+ Removed the 2 torx for airbag
+ It's a facelift so tehre's only one connector for the airbag, removed that.
+ Removed 16mm bolt from center
+ Removed the wheel
+ Put a piece of tape on the slip disc so it stays 'in place'... I remember that was doing a bit of a click when turning it back/forth
+ Removed the 3 torx from the disc and removed it

+ Did everything in reverse on the new wheel

Of course, I felt so confident I re-installed the panel, put away the tools and got ready for a test drive!!!

Likely the slip ring incorrectly seated or broken.

Success! It turns out there is a white plastic clip JUST a the center of the wheel, and they are *different*. My wheel looks exactly the same as the replacement, but the replacement one has a slightly thicker/longer extension with also, a slightly different angle.
Plastic clip is at the center, held by a torkx

Left is the clip from the replacement wheel, right is the clip from the existing one. Cursory glance when mounted on the wheel can't spot a diffenrece at all until you take the off and put them side by side.

So, I've put the original clip on the new wheel, and it's all working. Whoot.

New wheel is very nice, I have to say I'm well pleased with the finish. It's not as 'out there' as ome of the replacements I've seen, it's more 'OEM+' -- basically new leather with perforations (with 3 colour stiches), but it's really great.
