Good to hear it all went smoothly

Just out of interest, what is up with your throttle cable?

If you need a replacement I have a good method and company for getting a new one. As BMW have none in stock (of my cable anyway)!

Peugeot use 7mm nuts on various parts on their older vehicles, so did Talbot. I have some if you get stuck.

Tony.
Its good thinking really though Tony, one up for the Germans.. nobody loses a 11mm socket, totally unlike the 10mm

Mine was like that too! Most of the outer insulation had come off and rusted the metal outer

If your car is a 4 cylinder then bmw might still have cables in stock, however for my 2.8 they didn’t have any.

I would still check tho just in case

https://zroadster.org/threads/source-of-throttle-cables-found.73269/ - This is a link to my thread on how I got a replacement and the end result

PM me if you need more details

This could well be the cause of all your issues. you'll be loosing vacuum and sucking air in! I think they're M7 nuts using a 11mm socket, very BMW specific.
Unfortunately this wasn't the cause of the problem. One of those typical garage visits where they "claim" the car ran fine when they started it when it hasn't done that for a year. Next morning the car started as it has always done with revs between 1200 and 0 (stalled). They couldn't find anything wrong with the car. What it is doing is making a loud clicking noise until warm which you can feel if you rest your hand on top of the Vanos. This goes when warm. Garage's only suggestion was buy a MAF from BMW!

Works the other way round during normal running mate, when we smoke test we do a positive pressure test where the smoke blows out, when the engine is running its running the opposite under a vacuum. Still stands this could well be your issue.

Might be worth replacing the mssing nuts initially just to see if it makes any difference?

Tony.

Currently has a continental one which I bought to replace the NTK one a garage put on it when I had a MAF failure.

Can you try someone else's MAF from their 2.8tu to confirm yours is the issue.

Each time the revs recover during the cold start you can hear the car suck in a load of air like someone breathing. (Down below the DISA)

Have you removed and cleaned the idle air control valve? It is below the manifold and I had one stick a few years ago. Just washed it out with carb cleaner and it worked as good as new.

It just has a little flap that should move freely on its own. Maybe it has gotten dirty and sticky when cold.
