Jack up only front for oil change

My idea is to find a place to put a jack, ideally in the middle of the front and jack her up, place two stands as safety at the sides and unbolt the drain plug. Then remove the stands and lower the car with the jack and let the oil drain. Then do the same thing and tighten the bolt. Is there somewhere I can put the jack?

Cheers

If you have ramps drive it up on them so it is secure then jack up the rears [I use a piece of pine and jack just in front of the jack points on the strong part of the sill] then you are good to go.

I have also jacked very close to the jack points as per above and inserted the stands under the jack points.

I don't think jacking up the X brace would be a good idea, or be stable, and it is so low anyway you would struggle to actually use the jack handle!

I don't have any ramps, so I have to jack up let's say the right side first, place a stand under the jack point and then repeat it on the other side. At the front of course. Then unbolt the plug and then remove one of the jackstands at a time, then do it all over again and put the plug back? Surely it can't be that complicated to do an oil change

Hi Jesper,
Jacking up only the front is very dangerous, especially that you want to crawl underneath. The Zed is very havy on the front. Better to use the ramps !

You just have to create enough space to get under there keeping the car level and drop the oil. I am super careful and am not confident in putting a jack in any position other than the jack stand points, others will come along and advise you good locations. I am building a shed right now and will install a hoist as I hate all the jacking business.

Let's see what other say. :)

I've tried putting planks together and tried driving up on them. It went bad and it's far too risky. I'll try to locate a car lift. Otherwise I'll have to buy some more jackstands

Get ramps for the front if you can you won't regret it. Drive up then jack up the back on each side and place a stand to the same level. Drop oil. replace plug and fill. drop rear first then drive off stands. Super safe and easy.

Probably only oil change I'll do on the Z3. Not sure its worth it. Thanks for all the advice and expertise. I might have a chance on that car lift.

Got it. If it is only once not worth it. Good luck with the hoist that is by far the best option. Why only once, are you selling the Z? :(
