Interior mirror alarm

Hopefully an easy one for someone to answer.

In the 2.8 pre facelift model there are wires coming from the mirror. Is this just for the central locking and alarm? Or is it part of the immobiliser?

Not an auto dimming one on the 1998 model.
Pretty sure it’s the alarm but don’t know about immobiliser?

Mine has auto dimming. It’s 1999 and just a few months prior to the facelift launch.

Don’t remember auto dimming being an option on the Z3 but could be wrong? If you have the one piece key/remote control the receiver is mounted in the mirror.

Definitely no auto dimming.

Its the one peice key/remote version but if is it an immobilser too? Can you still drive the car without the mirror? My thoughts are it would only affect central locking and alarm. The car should work fine????

The immobiliser is a small transponder in the key that is picked by an aerial around the ignition switch so works separately to the alarm and locking, so if the mirror is missing only the alarm and locking will not work.

I’ve swopped mine for a Mini convertible mirror, easy popular mod that looks much better in my opinion.
