Hello all! I finally got around to registering into this great forum. I originally intended to do it back in 2017, when I bought my Z, but forgot. Now that I started doing more maintenance again, I luckily found my way back here.
So, where to start... I'm fortyish engineer, living near Helsinki, with two small kids, so I have only limited time to spend with the Z. And other cars, which also happen to be BMWs. Currently I have E60 530i (wifes) and F07 GT 530dx (daily driver). Previously I've had an E46 320dA, E60 530dA, E28 520i, E32 735iA (x2) and E36 316ti. So I've managed to get myself quite deep into this hole called 'Bimmer enthusiasm'.
In the past I've done most of my maintenance myself, but because the E60 and F07 have full dealer service histories, I've just continued to pour money into the dealers pockets. This has had two side effects, my pockets are quite empty and also my hands are itching to get something to work on. So the Z is the perfect cure for that. I had always wanted a convertible, but it didn't seem to make sense in Finland because of the weather. I was originally looking for a four seater car like E36 or E46, but this Z just appeared from nowhere and I was sold. And now that I've had the car for over two years, it still doesn't make that much sense, but at least it's a lot of fun!
It's not like this Z is packed with equipment, but here are the options from the factory:
S704 M Sports Suspension
S423 Floor Mats Velours
S428 Warning Triangle And First Aid Kit
S438 Fine Wood Trim
S440 Non-Smoker Package
S494 Seat Heating Driver/Passenger
S410 Window Lifts, Electric, Front
S669 Radio BMW Business RDS
S676 HiFi Speaker System
S672 CD Changer For 6 CDs
S520 Fog Lights
S550 On-Board Computer
S510 Headlight Vertical Aim Control
S530 Air Conditioning
S548 Kilometre Speedo
S255 Sports Leather Steering Wheel
S272 BMW LA Wheel Z Star (these have been lost at some point)
S243 Airbag For Front Passenger
S209 Differential Lock 25%
S205 Automatic Transmission
S818 Battery Master Switch
S354 Windscreen, Green-Tinted Upper Strip
S380 Hardtop-Preparation
S801 National Version Germany/Austria
S806 Third Stoplamp
S388 Softtop, Black
So far I've only done basic maintenance to the Z. Oil changes, filters, spark plugs and differential oil. Last summer I did the seat bushings as it was both annoying and mentioned in MOT. Before I drive it out of the garage for summer, I intend to replace the brake discs, pads and fluid as well as the transmission fluid. And also do a cruise control retrofit. If only the parts arrive, because of the corona situation.
So far I've had zero issues with the car, although it has already done 265000 km from which the last 10k by me. It seems to be one the most solid cars I've owned, which I find a little ironic as it's made in US and american made stuff usually get a bit bad rep, especially in Europe.
Looking forward on spending a lot of time on the forum and getting huge amounts of information. This is by the way the first introduction I've ever made into any forum.
And here's a size comparison between the Z and the Dumbo:
