External temp gauge.

The temp gauge that measures external temperature stays at 50 degrees, is this a common problem? And is it fixable?

Its most likely the temperature sensor. It is located under the front of the car, stuck into the front bumper in one of the bottom grill corners.

Possibly the probe could do with a quick rub with wire wool or sand paper to remove surface corrosion?

Thanks for all the information, found the sensor (yellow plastic thing) gave it a good clean but still not working, will try a replacement now I know where it is.
