That probably describes me but this is actually a dipstick question!

The dipstick in my 2.2i is not the same design as the illustration in the car’s manual. I’m wondering whether it is the right one.

Periodically the car demands some oil (warning light on in instrument cluster).

I am never sure which mark I should top it up to!

Does anyone else have this type of dipstick and if so please could you guide me as to which is the maximum mark?

Is it the narrower/bottom groove in the lower pic?

Many thanks in anticipation!

I have the same dipstick in my 2.2.
I don't have a manual for it but I've always taken the wide groove as a minimum and the narrow groove as the maximum. Pretty much what you said.

On the 4cyl engines the dipstick is different ATTACH]75499[/ATTACH] a bit more definite as to what max and min is.
Surely someone on here must have a 6cyl owners manual the 4 cyl manual clearly shows the max / min points i imagine the 6cyl manual will also

Thank you all very much indeed.:)

The range between the upper and lower limits is surprisingly small on the 2.2. I much prefer the 4 cylinder version.

I had to get a longer dipstick as it stopped reaching the oil :(

You would be surprised how often that happens at M.O.T. time. Today it was a 66 plate Skoda Superb Taxi with 96,000 miles on it.
