Don't know if any one else has mentioned this but have you checked the hand brake cable ?
Had this annoying metallic rattle on mine and this was what caused it.
The mechanic took out the slack and was cured....thank God

Easy enough to check this, just pull the handbrake on a click or two when the rattle starts and listen to see if it stops .

As long as the pads can't fall out, ie, they've got their retaining clips in place there's no need to worry about those. Ask someone to apply light pressure on the brake peddle and as long as they don't move under braking it's ok.
At least you know you wont have to knock them out when you come to change them, and also you know that they wont stay on the disc once you take your foot off the brake peddle.

Had a good look and the pad at the back has no clip on it that holds it in place on the caliper. Both the drivers and pas side the same. New pads this week and hopefully be rattle free by the weekend

Why not buy some more brake pads? If the ones fitted are aftermarket pattern parts they might be dimensionally different to standard parts.
Are the brake callipers original fit or have they been changed at some point?

A very common problem is that when someone finds the pads stuck in the carrier bracket they proceed to file too much off the fitting points where the pads touch the carrier, instead of lightly cleaning them until the new pads are a snug fit. Once the metal has been removed you cant put it back.

Just ordering pads now is there meant to be a sensor on both sides of the car as at present only the drivers side pad has a sensor plugged in

Hi Derek

I had the same 2 issues this year when I bought mine.

Someone had removed the ASC and ABS bulbs to hide a fault.
new bulbs meant they stayed on all the time. Fault code software bought that pointed to ASC pump fault. pump replaced with the help of @t-tony. problem solved.

spent ages looking for annoying rattle. followed Tonys test of pulling handbrake on one click and noise went away.
adjusted slack from handbrake cables. problem solved once again.

hope this might help.
