You got it built yet @Sean d ?.
Been looking at the vast array of makes and models available and came across the one I had as a kid.
It was Kyosho Scorpion, so now I'm really tempted to buy one and relive my youth .

It seems loads of people are buying them now Tony.
A lot of the suppliers of the new kits are low on stock or out of stock on the most popular ones.
Same with car valeting supplies as well, might have to do a secret raid on @andyglym =))

After reading this post Ive decided to buy the grandson a new RC car for his birthday. We've had 4 cheap ones so far in the last two years £20 or so. He operates the hand controller real well but the cheap ones are too slow and underpowered. Never been into this RC thing but have got hooked as has he. So decided to try and find something in the not so cheap range, here's what I've ordered him.

WIToys XKS 144011 1:14 2.4G 4WD RC car.

Hope this will please him, advice I'm afraid will be too late as it's on its way.
If it's any good I'll have to buy another cos he likes to race me especially on his Scalextric course. With his old RC cars we go to the basket ball court in the park when it's not busy.

Hope I don't get the bug too bad as I've seen how expensive it can get.
Think I might try and build one Sean.

Think you've started something here. Went routing in the garage to retrieve these bad boys.

The closest is the eldest lads - a Traxxas Rustler VXL. This version is capable of well in excess of 60mph! I think it is fitted with a 31T pinion, maybe 28t. Takes about 2-3 seconds to get to that speed. Blisteringly fast.
The shocks though are prone to breaking with the massive loads they are subject too. The plastic bodies need to be replaced with metal ones. Needs a massive space to get the most out of it though. A big car-park or a beach after the tide has gone out. They do a 4x4 version of this beast now.

The second one is the youngest's - slightly slower but still quick a HPI-Racing Firestorm 10T. Despite being 10 year old both these machines have brushless motors.

The top on is my own Axial AX10 Scorpian Rockcrawler. Fitted with locked differentials. Not quick, but will climb even steps.

Sadly, none of the batteries except the lowest capacity are working. I see some replacement parts being ordered very soon.

Brilliant mate, bit more upmarket than your original choice .
I imagine your paint job will be rather more unique than that pictured.
Yes the first one is a basher, not so the second one, it will get some upgrades but will be painted as box, that kyosho you got is a serious piece of kit

Couldn't resist going back in the shed last night to do a bit more

Had to work today though and work tomorrow so it's sat waiting a bit now.
Mind you I've got to wait for the battery charger which should be here on Tuesday.
Really enjoyed building it up, it gets addictive.

You do know don't you, that, the moment you've got it all built and running, you will be straight into the upgrade path. Just saying ;)

Yep, already been looking at the upgrade list :).
Just got a brushed 540 motor for now, which will still be quicker than what I used to have. No where near as quick as your cars though Ian.
