As I said in my introduction I'm new to Z3s and new to BMWs in general.

It won't surprise any of you long term owners what I found on the lovely new acquisition which I bought last Saturday.

By the way this forum is already proving it's worth as most of the answers to the "problems" are already here!

  • Both seats jiggle on acceleration/deceleration (great answer re: fitting new bushes in this forum)
  • Drivers seat forward/aft movement fine (if a bit noisy) but trying to raise seat (it is waaay down at the bottom of adjustment) does nothing - no noise - no vibration - nothing it just stubbornly stays where it is...I suspect a faulty switch but the article (again in this forum) on seat f/a motor and diagrams means I can confidently unbolt and inspect the mechanism.
  • One of the Hardon speakers muffly - again recent article on replacement
  • Oil service lights are working but indicate oil change not needed - Just found an excellent article here about re-setting these lights and reading between the lines I think that's exactly what the previous owner ( a canny South African who when I asked about service history waffled on about "Ahh in this country you hardly use your cars ... In South Africa we drove hundreds of miles in searing heat and dust and never needed to do regular servicing!".. In other words I'm a soft pom and the cars fine.... Well I'll do an oil service just in case thank you my old mate (just in case you have been reseting the oil service indicator on the sly!)
  • Seat belt guide clip cracked - again not a big problem but another article here shows me how to reolve it - what service!
So for an 18 year old 1.9 car with 116,000 on the clock not bad at all... in fact bloody marvelous. Sure the soft top window a bit misty ... a few scratches but chassis solid as a rock and the engine and powertrain as tight and yare as a 3 year old car... who would believe it???

One thing - has anyone experienced the seat height switch/motor/mechanism to be faulty and rectified as opposed to the fore/aft ones???

Any tips greatly received!

Hi @Triang if in the unlikely event the fix is not on here, if you Google "z3 electric seat height issues" or similar there's a number of advice on this matter on the various BMW forums. Techno biff myself so can't help you solve the problem personally.

Hope this helps?

Andy

We aim to please or confuse both in equal measure.

Hope you are enjoying your zed and am sure you will come to pamper it as we all do.

Rear window try greygate polish.

Hi :welcome: to the forum, the seat problem you have, I have just delt with as the switch is working ( power to motor but no joy seat not raising ) I inserted an Allen key in too the side of the motor and slowly just wound the seat up. Hope this helps. But just get out there and happy motoring:racecar:

Siamamda that's really helpful - thank you!

I don't suppose I could be really lucky here and I could fo this with the seat still in place...or do I have to unbolt it and lift it out first?

Sorry to say but you have to unbolt it, lift it up side ways as I did not want to unplug any wires. This then allows you to get at the motor.
