Depends on just how much has been bent inside the engine, if some of the valves have been kinked then it may well run on two. Not too hard to lift off the cam-cover and have a look, really.
Bit OT maybe, but I had a Transit come in once with a horrible clatter from the engine and a bad misfire...

never got a seized caliper when I need one, but it might work, you never know. If it works on bike pistons I see no reason why it shouldn't work on bigger stuff.

Only really applies when the starter is working, and the original post was a non-starter. And in the right hands a tester isn't that scary, just got to know what you're doing.
