Hi everyone,
I have now completed the general overhaul of our 2000 year 6 cylinder 2.0 ,only48000 miles from new Z3 ! You may recall the pictures of the mice living in the inner cills when I started the strip down. Well I attach (hopefully !) the completed car, it looks stunning with a new coat of the original metallic Aegean Blue.
Anyway, I have noted the often reported problem of the passenger wiper catching the bonnet. This is a problem that we suddenly contracted and it was a puzzle. We noted the claims of wear to the shaft etc ,but after checking this it was evidently not the problem.
I backtracked over anything I had done to the wipers recently and the only thing that came up was removing them and the scuttle cover before I painted. I recalled that pulling the arms off the splines was a ba....., difficult job! After purchasing a wiper arm removal tool (£6.00 Ebay) and removing the wiper arms and plastic scuttle....again I inspected the arms, shaft and mountings. All looked ok but the raised metal mounting welded to the engine side bulkhead looked flimsy and could be moved slightly by twisting the arm. I suspected I had bent it up slightly by levering and pulling the wiper arm upwards. I bluetacked a piece of wood across the line of the screw holding the round steel tube to the said mounting and windscreen and measured the gap from the screw to wood. I the gave the screw in the centre of the mounting (not on the plastic arm !) a fairly hard bash downward with a drift. I could see the bulkhead mount move and it gave me back

an extra 2 mm gap. I refitted the passenger wiper arm only, no scuttle, and closed the bonnet. On turning the wipers on there was no contact ! Problem solved.
In my case I am sure this/I caused the problem. So guys, have you levered your wiper arms off or pulled them really hard?
