Z3 spot light Question

ok,ok, so i have asked this before but i still havent got an answer and despite all my digging on the net i cant find anything :-/ i want to be able to turn my spots on with the parking lights, the relay in question is K47, has anyone just swapped out this relay with one that has different gates to suit? there has to be something out there to be able to do this, or some way to bridge the pins so the spots are controlled by the cabin swith.

Not sure what you mean exactly, but my car is a US Z3.
I can turn on my parking lights and using the fog light switch, I can turn those on (fog lights) and drive.
I know European cars may have different lighting requirements.
Not sure if that helps?

if i bridged 30 to 87 would it not then just work when i hit the switch in the cabin? i presume 87A is the variable tied to the main beam and wont activate until the main beam is on? just guessing here ;-/

@Rudyrov yes there are different laws here so different set up, my spots dont switch on until my main beams are on, i cant switch them on with parkers, just the way it is set up here :-/

Sounds like in my car, 86 receives power from headlight switch when the parking or headlights are on?
You would have to check a US diagram to make sure.

and is your relay a K47? if not, then the relay you have is the one i want ;-)

Page 610-30 of the Bently manual lists relay G as Front Foglight Relay, K47 (Z3). also a/c relay, DME K33a (M version).

As soon as I switch on my side lights (parking lights) the front fog light switch becomes "live". You can turn on the front fog lights which then stay lit whether you're on side, dip or main beam.

if its not a simple question of changing out the relay then i am at a loss :-(

it has to do with the source for 86.
I would break out my voltmeter and see when it gets juice. Identifying that would lead you to what its connected to..
You could always add a by pass and wire up some other switch or circuit, but this takes a thorough understanding of the wiring system for that area of the car.

yes i agree with 86 having to be powered up, i was hoping it would be just the relay but dosent seem to be.... time for some more schematic digging me thinks ;-) thanks @Rudyrov

A LOT of people in the UK drive on side lights with their front fogs on, a guy at work does in his Merc. and he has covered his in a yellow film for the continental effect (). Not every one knows that this is in fact illegal and if the police could be bother you can be fined for it. It came to the fore a couple of years? ago with the "tail gating" offence.

I believe it's simply the tint on the lenses is the illegal part. May be wrong though! Mr MOT is that correct? JIM
