Just checking in. I am Richie from Aberdeen Scotland. I've bought an early 1.9 z3 which has been off the road for a number of years. It was probably the cheapest in the land and most likely a basket case. I want it to have something to spanner on over the winter and looking for a project. The jacking points on either side look a bit tatty so I am sure the welder will be called in to action. I am not 100% sure what my plan for the car will be. I'll probably end up swapping the engine once the rust is sorted but I do also have a hankering for something FI, so the m44 might get a blower. I am not totally new to zeds, as I had an s50'ed shoe a few years back, i had to sell as the house need windows. This is my first roadster and I am sure I'll have a load of questions and need for parts. The roadster will live next to my s50b32 swapped e30. I'll add some photos when I work out how to do it.

Thanks 5

Thanks Ian. All I really have left to do to the e30 is a bit of an interior refresh. It was a total povert spec 1.6 when i started. I am looking forward to rescuing the zed and hopefully bringing it up to the same standard.

Don't write off the jacking points too soon. There's a painted outer sill that can get quite crusty but that's not load bearing. The real load bearing sill is under that. You won't know what you've got till you get the outer sills off. They just bolt on so if you're looking for a weekend spanner job have a go at that.

And welcome to the fold. I like a nice 3 series. I had the same model, but different, mine was a 4 door 318i That was a long time ago. Often when I'm driving my z3 I get the dejevu feeling that it feels just like my old 318

Thanks for the tip Duncodin. First order will be to clean the 8 years of storage dirt off of it. My cleaning ocd is looking forward to that part. Then once it's in the shed I'll end up taking it to bits. Not really sure why it came off the road in the first place but I am sure I'll find out haha

Hi and welcome from me near Lincoln. if you use one of the MOT history check sites by entering the registration you may get some idea of why it came off the road ?

Thanks Tony. Yes, there is nothing sinister in the old tests. The usual, bulbs, brake pipes etc. Some of the brake pipes look to have been done. There is a light for the ABS.

I used to have inpa on an old laptop. I am trying to find a new source that isn't on a disk. I no longer have a laptop with a cd drive. I'll get it plugged in and see what the deal is. The intake boot is cracked as well so it probably wasn't running too sweet. I've got a good 1 haha

Good to read that there were no nasty corrosion issues. A split intake would be enough to kill it o emissions for sure. Please keep us updated on your progress, maybe even start a build thread?

Tony.

Hi and welcome from another relatively newcomer. I’m just North of you at Inverurie. Your sills look a similar condition to what mine were but a few hours with the welder will make all the difference.

Hi Jim, I am besides daviot. Yeah I don't think what I've seen so far is too bad. I've still to have a good poke at the drivers side. The car came from montrose which is a coastal town. The body itself looks really good but everything bolted to it looks toast.
