    Water in the fuel filler

Thanks for that. You're quite right of course. The muck that blocked the hole had cunningly blended in so well with the surrounding rubber I failed to spot it, despite having looked several times. Obviously going blind in my old age!

    Water in the fuel filler

I have a small problem with my 1997 2.8 in that water collects in the rubber boot surrounding the fuel filler pipe inside the flap. I thought at first a drain had become blocked, but there's doesn't seem to be any drain hole. I don't want to drill one, in case the water just drains into...

    Bonnet badge 51.14-1970248

That looks like the one. Duly ordered. Many thanks.

    Bonnet badge 51.14-1970248

One of the side badges on my Zerstorer is badly in need of replacement (all silver by now), Part no. 51.14-1970248. It seems whilst every other BMW badge is available for a couple of quid, everyone wants £50 plus for this one. Anyone know of a supplier out there that charges sensible prices?

Help with diagnostics on 1997 2.8

Thanks for that everyone. I haven't driven the car yet (still waiting for body panels to be returned after rust treatment), so hopefully an Italian tune-up will sort out the lights. I have subsequently managed to find engine data under the "DPF" menu on the electronic crystal ball, but nothing...

Help with diagnostics on 1997 2.8

Can anyone help an automotive luddite? I recently rebuilt the rear suspension of my 97 2.8 Z3 and was rewarded with the ABS and DSC lights refusing to go out on the dash. Figuring I must have broken a wire or damaged a sensor somewhere, I thought I'd invest in a diagnostic tool to try and...

    Help on warning lights

I've just completed an overhaul on the rear axle & suspension on my 97 2.8, Having replaced the brake pipes, put it all back together, and bled the brakes, I took it up and down a farm track for a quick test. Apart from slightly spongy brakes (no doubt a second bleeding is called for), all...

How do I bleed the power steering?

Thanks for the advice everyone. The pipe I'm referring to is the actual cooling loop that runs in front of the radiator, which was corroded to the point that leakage looked imminent. Looks like I'd better check the one along the steering rack as well! As for the non-PS, non-synchromesh...

How do I bleed the power steering?

I finally got around to removing my rusty old steering cooler pipe and taking it in to the local stainless fabricator (Acumen in Hereford) and they knocked me up a stainless copy, including welded fixing brackets, for 90 quid. They couldn't flare the pipe ends to match the original however, due...

    2.8 oil cooler pipe corrosion

I fianally got around to removing my rusty old cooler pipe and taking it in to the local stainless fabricator (Acumen in Hereford) and they knocked me up a stainless copy, including welded fixing brackets, for 90 quid. They couldn't flare the pipe ends to match the original however, due to the...

    Stainless steel bolts?

Having spent the day using a breaker bar and cold chisel removing the securing bolts on various rear suspension components on the dear old Z3 (whose idea was it to have the bolts holding the rear cross member brackets in place removed using a 6mm Allen key? Some chance!), I thought when I...

    Replacement 2.8 rear exhaust

Due to a hole in the centre box I need to replace the rear end of my 1997 2.8's exhaust. Not looking for anything fancy, just like for like. BMW want £650. Does anyone know of a cheaper source, as this seems to be the same price as a custom built stainless replacement?

Oil cooler and Fuel Tank Straps

With the rear end dropped from my 2.8 and finding myself staring at rusty tank straps, I picked up this thread whilst searching for new ones. Are the stainless ones available yet

How do I get the handbrake cable off?

As it happens I've found a split in the outer cable further forward. I was trying to minimise the amount of work immediately necessary to get the Old Girl back on the road, but I guess that makes the decision for me. Cutters and large hammer it is then!
